About Gary Miles

Gary Miles has made martial arts a major part of his life for over 30 years. In 1978 Miles started training in Kim Tae Kwon Do followed by Kick-boxing with middle-weight Champion Rodney Batiste and karate with Dan Wilson. Gary didn’t stop there, however. He continued to supplement his training with a hybrid approach to the arts. In 1992, he began Shootfighting with Bart Vale allowing him to combine the power and speed of standup with locks, chokes, and submissions.
In the mid-90’s Brazilian Jiu-jitsu dominated the fighting world. Miles would not be left out. He started ground defense and submission training with Ralph Gracie and later with 5th degree Black Belt Jacare Calvalcanti. To date, Miles continues to train and renew his certifications in these respected forms by attending camps, workshops, and training seminars.
Currently, Mr. Miles holds a fifth degree Black Belt under Dan Wilson, is a certified Muay Thai instructor by Kru Vut Kamark, and a certified Shootfighting instructor by Bart Vale. Miles’ tremendous versatility and undying passion to teach others makes American Karate the best choice for training.
